Deputies with the Canadian County Sheriff's Office arrested three people traveling on Interstate 40 this past weekend. Deputies say 15 pounds of marijuana was located in the vehicle.

The three in custody were identified as Douglas Washington, 40, Charles Searcy, 33, both of Chicago, along with Lakesha Pouncy, 33, of Sturgis, Michigan.

They were all arrested after a deputy stopped them for an unsafe lane change on Interstate 40 at Morgan Road, and marijuana was found in the car.

Deputies became suspicious of the three when it was determined the information they were providing conflicted with their geographical location.

"The three subjects told my deputies that they had been to Austin, and were traveling back to Chicago. It didn't make any sense that they would be eastbound on Interstate 40 at Morgan Road if they were traveling from Austin," said Randall Edwards, Canadian County Sheriff.

A drug detector dog was called to the scene, and a free-air sniff around the vehicle resulted in a positive alert by "Pickles", a Sheriff's drug-sniffing canine.

Following the positive alert, a search of the vehicle resulted in locating five individual packages of cellophane wrapped marijuana inside suitcases in the trunk of the rental car the three were traveling in.

"This was low grade dope originating out of Mexico, with a street value of somewhere around 5 or 6 thousand dollars, but it still amounts to serious felony arrests, and drugs taken off the streets," said Edwards.

All three subjects were transported to the Canadian County Detention Center and booked on charges of Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.

All three remain in custody with bond set at $10,500 each.
