A deformed puppy named "Lucky" was dumped at the city's animal shelter over the weekend. He has chain markings around his neck and can barely walk, and now the shelter is raising money for the pup's care.

Cozy in his bed, Lucky was fortunate to land in the hands at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter.

"We have no information on him, no idea what happened to him," said Julie Bank, Superintendent of OKC Animal Welfare.

Left badly injured in the shelter's lobby, the 5-month old terrier mix was rushed to the vet, where they learned Lucky's legs were deformed.

"He can scoot but he can't walk normally. He has indications around his neck that he had a chain around his neck and we're guessing that he had that chain around his neck for a very long time," Bank said.

Despite the adversity, Lucky still loves being around people.

"He is a sweetie patootie, he loves to have you pet his ears and to rub his belly," Bank said.

The city animal shelter is filled with hundreds of pets who need help. Another dog was recently hit by a car and left bloody and abandoned with bones sticking out.

The shelter set up an "Angel Fund" to help pay for costs that are above and beyond basic medical care. Treatment for Lucky will be extensive. He'll have X-rays done to see how much work and how soon he can be adopted.

"Lucky needs a place where he can sit and he can rest and he can recover after the determination of what type of surgery is going to happen. They'll have to reconstruct and make sure that he can walk someday," Banks said.
