Oklahoma City road crews said they are on 12-hour shifts working around the clock to plow and treat the city's snow routes.

Roads are only expected to get worse Monday night and into Tuesday morning.

Any snow that managed to melt will quickly refreeze to all the roads, making for another hazardous morning drive, transportation officials said.

Several accidents made for slow-going across the metro Monday, and if you don't have to get out on the roads, it's probably best to just stay home.

“Even a Hummer, four-wheel drive, you're going to slide,” said Oklahoma City resident, Jonathan Burton.

Burton and his family, originally from Missouri, said they are enjoying this snow day while they can. He said he already knows road conditions are expected to get worse.

“They're not going to get any better. The more we drive on them, the more they get slushy,” said Burton. “The more the possible chance of freezing temperatures is going to ice the roads.”

Traffic was shut down at I-35 northbound near Waterloo Road, due to multiple car crashes Monday.

Police have not said if anyone was injured in those accidents. They stopped responding to non-injury accidents around 1 p.m.

“Secondary roads are definitely the ones you have to take real caution on to make sure you're driving slow [sic] and paying attention when you're turning,” said Burton.

“It's also the people that don't know how to drive on the secondary roads and on the hills,” said Oklahoma City resident, Dawn Dilley.

If you have to get out there, you're urged to take extra precaution, especially Tuesday morning.
