Fresh Mobile Market Feed Hungry Oklahoma Seniors

One in six Oklahoma seniors struggle with hunger. In Oklahoma County alone, a third of seniors are hungry on a daily basis. So, volunteers with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma are bringing the food to them.

Each month, residents at Superbia Retirement Community in northwest Oklahoma City, line up to go shopping.

"Being on disability, funds are limited and it just helps with food," said Ann Marie Montambault, who lives at the retirement community.

She along with her neighbors receive free food, "farmer's market" style, through the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma's Senior Mobile Market -- where they are able to choose the foods they want.

"It's fresh produce," she said. "You get vegetables, canned goods, it's just a variety and I love it."

The market feeds more than 1,000 seniors at 18 locations across the metro each month. Volunteers distribute the food -- which includes fresh produce, meat, bread and canned foods.

"Whether it's rain or shine or snow, we have seniors that need your help and we love our volunteers, they make sure they are going to be able to eat that week," said Angie Doss with the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma.

"I just tell them 'God bless them' every time they come out," said Montambault.
