On the second Saturday of each month, the Greater Oklahoma Bluegrass Music Society hosts its bluegrass festival. The monthly event has been taking place each month for the past 20 years. The program chairman Melba Arnold said each month it seems someone else new discovers the festival.

"New people coming in that never heard of it before, you know, where it was and what's going on, what's it like and everything," Arnold said.

The bluegrass festival is held at the Oklahoma Country Western Museum and Hall of Fame in Del City, Okla. Bands come from all around, but according to Melba, she has plenty of local talent from which to choose.

"I've got over 50 bands that are willing to come and play for us that I can rotate through,"  Arnold said. "Three at a time is all I can have, but that's awesome."

Being able to come out and hear some good local bluegrass music isn't the only purpose behind the festival. Arnold and the bluegrass society would like to make the music they love appealing to a whole new generation.

"We want to keep the kids interested so that they'll be there to play and it won't die out," said Melba.
