Poet Laureate to be given humanities award

Pulitzer Prize winner and Oklahoma Centennial State Poet Laureate N. Scott Momaday will given the 2008 Oklahoma Humanities Award on Tuesday, February 12 at the Oklahoma History Center.

Oklahoma Humanities Council presents the annual award to people who have contributed significantly to the understanding of the humanities in Oklahoma.

"We are so pleased to name Dr. Momaday as the 2008 recipient of the Oklahoma Humanities Award," said OHC executive Director Ann Thompson, in a press release. "His voluminous and varied works have garnered him international respect, not only for himself but also for the Native traditions that inform his work.  The award recognizes his contributions to our understanding of the human experience."

There will be a free presentation and book signing with Momaday begining at 8:00 p.m. The presentation will include remarks by Momaday and a moderated discussion to include questions from the audience. His books are on sale at the History Center gift shop.
