A woman's car burst into flames after she hit a light pole on Interstate 40, said Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers.

Katie Pennington, 26, was headed northbound on Interstate 35 and tried to enter westbound on Interstate 40 when she lost control of her Toyota Camry. The car slid sideways for about 304 feet, struck a light pole and caught on fire.

Pennington was out of the car when it caught on fire, said officials.

Another driver saw the collision and stopped to help the woman get further away from the burning automobile.

Pennington suffered head and ankle injuries, but the passerby could have saved her life, said troopers.
