A metro man is trying to repair his business after a fire destroyed part of his daycare.

About 85 children attend the Today's Generation Child Development Center in the 9300 block of South Shields Boulevard. A transformer blew Monday night starting a grass fire that destroyed a building that was being converted into classrooms, and a large stand-alone metal warehouse. No one was hurt in the fire.

Owner Eddie Grant said children were moved Tuesday to one of his two other facilities in the area.

"By the time I got here, within ten minutes, our whole back building was completely engulfed in flames,' he said.

Grant said the fire destroyed about $30-40,000 in new inventory.

Grant says the silver lining here is that the wind, pushed the flames south of the child care center's main building, leaving it well intact.

"So the kids, the children's stuff, their artwork, it's all safe," he said.
