Instead of using harsh chemicals or hot wax to remove unwanted facial hair, use a piece of string.

Mary Paydar, owner of Beyond Beauty day spa in Edmond, is one of the few people in Oklahoma that is skilled in the technique of threading.

"Threading has a long history," Paydar said. "It came from the middle east. China, India, and they're still practicing it over there."

People travel from all over the state just to benefit from Paydar's talent.

"Every day they call me," Paydar said. "They call me all over from Ardmore, Shawnee. They travel two or three hours to have it done."

There are no harsh chemicals or hot waxes used in threading. Just a simple cotton string.

"That's all we need to use is just a cotton thread," Paydar said. "The cotton thread that we twist back and forth over the skin grabs the hair from the root and removes the hair row by row."

Misty Anderson has had facial threading done for the last three years. She said there are no draw backs to the procedure.

"It's not painful," Anderson said. "You can definitely feel that the hair removal is there, but it's no different than tweezers."

For people who have had face threading done, they don't see this as being a passing fade.

"I'm so glad that threading is available because it is a lot more gentle on the skin," Anderson said.

"I think it will definitely catch on a lot more than waxing."
