Rick Sutcliffe has been a major supporter of The Children's Center in Bethany for years, but now children are sending their support his way.
Former Major League baseball player Rick Sutcliffe was recently diagnosed with colon cancer in March. His diagnosis comes just nine months after his last visit to Oklahoma City for the Mark Harmon Charity Baseball game and other events benefiting The Children's Center.
Throughout the course of his 18 year professional career - Rick Sutcliffe was named baseball's Rookie of the Year in 1979. He earned the Cy Young award in 1984.
Sutcliffe will now undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatments for the next six weeks, and he has a good chance at a full recovery experts said.
But during that recovery he will also have plenty of support. The children at the center have been hard at work making get-well messages to send to Rick.
"Rick has a big heart for the kids," said Albert Gray, CEO of The Children's Center. "Now we have the opportunity to reach out to him and say 'Get well' and come through this with flying colors -- which we know he will."
