STILLWATER, Oklahoma - Hundreds of people gathered Saturday to remember the lives of 10 members of the OSU basketball family who were killed in a plane crash seven years ago.

Former OSU Coach Eddie Sutton was alongside Pistol Pete to kick start this year's "Remember the 10 Run". More than 1,300 people attended the event.

NEWS 9's Sports Director Bill Teegins and 9 others were on their way back to Oklahoma following a game in Colorado when their plane went down in 2001.

Kerry Alexander, event organizer, said officials were glad to see Sutton at the event.

"In light of all the things that have happened in April for the Sutton family, it's a testament to that man that he comes back and makes this a priority to Oklahoma State," Alexander said.

The Suttons have made headlines lately with Sean Sutton's departure from the school, but father Eddie Sutton said no matter what, it's important that Oklahomans stop and remember the men.

"I hope this will continue long after I'm gone but as long as I'm alive I'll certainly always be here for this event," Sutton said.

Family and friends of the men who died agreed it is a special event.

"It was very personal to us and it's just great for everybody to come out and remember them," said Margie Oxford, run participant.

Organizers said they expect the race to continue growing each year. All proceeds from the race are donated to OSU Counseling Services to help with grief counseling needs.
