It's time to crown a champion tonight in the Bayou. Either LSU or Ohio State will leave New Orleans with the most bogus title since Daughtry was denied American Idol. So in the wake of my Fiesta Bowl prediction debacle in which I missed the mark by 51 points, I offer up my humble opinion.
I'm taking Ohio State. I've never been on the LSU bandwagon all season. I just don't see it. I think they're a good team that has gotten incredibly lucky to only have two losses this season. The Buckeyes, on the other hand, have a significant advantage in the coaching matchup and are carrying a significant chip on their shoulders after last year's Gator Gutting.
I don't think Ohio State is a great team either. But I think they are playing with a cause. And in this battle of college football mediocrity that may be enough to win even in the hostile environment of the SuperDome. Beenie Wells will have a big night. The Scarlet defense will be up to the test.
Ohio State wins the National Championship tonight in the Crescent City. Buckeyes-27, LSU-23.
