Woman dies in Guthrie crash

GUTHRIE, Okla.-- A woman died Thursday after an SUV crashed into a tree off Broadway St. just south of Highway 33, authorities said.

A Guthrie-resident was driving a Toyota 4Runner down a steep hill at around noon when her car hit a patch of ice and spun out of control, troopers said. The SUV ran off the road and hit a tree on the passenger's side.

The passenger was reported dead at the scene and the driver was taken with nonlife-threatening injuries to a local hospital, troopers said.  

Questions remained why there was a guard rail on one side of the road, but not on the side where the ladies ran off the road.
