ATKINS, Ark. -- Tornadoes tore across Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi on Tuesday, killing at least three people injuring several others in a rare midwinter outbreak of violent weather.
A couple and a child were killed in Atkins, a city of about 3,000, the Pope County Sheriff's Office said.
In Jackson, Tenn., a storm damaged a dormitory at Union University, and a school spokesman said eight students were trapped in a damaged dormitory but not seriously injured.
