An Oklahoma County judge sentences a man to life in prison plus 10 years for killing someone while helping his girlfriend collect a drug debt.
Charles Bert Jones, Jr. pleaded guilty in September to first-degree murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit a felony for the 2005 killing of Jesse Tatum, Jr.
Prosecutors recommended a sentence of life in prison without parole, noting that Jones is already serving 40 years in prison in another shooting case.
Jones' attorney asked District Judge Tammy Bass-LeSure to consider a lighter sentence so there would be a chance for the 26-year-old Oklahoma City resident to get out of prison one day.
The terms will run consecutive to his current sentence.
Jones' former girlfriend, Ashley Dion Noble, also was convicted in 2005 for the killing and was sentenced last month to life in prison.
