Lawmakers are debating over the 2008 Farm Bill-- a measure impacting tens of thousands of people across the state.
The Farm Bill sets agricultural policy and prices. The current bill, which is an extension of the 2002 law, will expire on March 15. Oklahoma Congressman Frank Lucas said it's a 50 to 50 chance that a new farm bill will be passed.
"President Bush says he will veto any bill that has a tax increase so if we're going to do some new things," said U.S. Representative Frank Lucas, (R) Oklahoma. "Some good things then we have to come up with savings in other places with the bill."
If lawmakers cannot pass a new farm bill, they'll have to extend the 2002 version once again.
