The so-called "Son of House Bill 1804" is facing a Thursday deadline at the state House of Representatives. By Thursday, all state House bills must pass into the state Senate.
The immigration bill was authored by Representative Randy Terrill and strengthens the existing law against illegal immigration. The bill includes a provision for making English the state's official language. But House Speaker Chris Benge said he doubts the will be heard by Thursday's deadline.
Rep. Terrill said he could still attach his immigration proposals to another piece of legislation.
