WACO, Texas (OSU Athletics <http://www.okstate.com>) - Oklahoma State dropped its first Big 12 Conference series of the season as Baylor topped the Cowboys, 8-5, in Sunday's series finale at Baylor Ballpark.

The loss dropped the 23rd-ranked Cowboys to 11-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play, while the No. 10 Bears improved to 13-4 and 2-1 in the league.

BU was aided by three home runs in the contest, including a pair of three-run shots.

Tyler Blandford (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season for the Cowboys as the sophomore right hander allowed seven runs on seven hits in five innings of work.

Jordy Mercer was the lone Cowboy to finish with more than one hit as the junior shortstop was 3-for-4 and scored twice.

The Cowboys took the game's first lead in the top of the third inning on Tyrone Hambly's team-leading fifth home run of the season, a solo shot to left-centerfield.

OSU's lead did not last long, however, as the Bears countered with a long ball of their own to take the lead. After an infield single and a hit-by-pitch, Shaver Hansen sent an opposite-field shot over the wall in left field for a three-run homer and a 3-1 Baylor advantage.

Coach Frank Anderson's club erased its deficit in the fourth. Mercer led off the inning with a double to center field and later scored from third on an infield single by Donnie Webb. The Cowboys tied the score at 3-3 when Luis Flores drew a bases-loaded walk, and they went back on top on an RBI fielder's choice by Hambly.

The back-and-fourth scoring continued in the bottom of the inning as BU evened the score at 4-4 on an RBI groundout by Ben Booker.

The Bears went back on top in the fifth on another three-run homer, this one off the bat of Dustin Dickerson, to make the score 7-4.

OSU got back in the scoring column in the seventh with a solo homer by Mercer pulling the Cowboys to within 7-5. The home run was Mercer's fourth of the season.

The Bears again countered in the bottom of the inning, and this time it was their shortstop, Beamer Weems, with a solo home run that made the score 8-5.

BU starter Willie Kempf improved to 3-0 with a six-inning performance in which he allowed four runs on five hits. Craig Fritsch worked the final three innings and allowed just one run to earn his second save of the season.

OSU returns to action Tuesday with the first of two midweek doubleheaders against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. Tuesday's opener is scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.
