Oklahoma is finally getting a break from rain and storms this weekend, with mostly sunny skies and dry weather expected.  However, with clearing skies and calmer night winds this weekend, morning lows will fall into the 30's in many places, with some spots reaching freezing temperatures Sunday morning.

In Oklahoma City, we typically see our last Spring freeze around March 30, but have had a freeze as late in the season as May 5.  Last year, we had freezing temperatures in the Metro on April 7, a month after the previous freeze in early March.

Oklahoma City's last freeze this year was on March 24, when the low temperature at Will Rogers World Airport reached 30 degrees.

You can check your part of the state's Spring freeze statistics here.  Click on the "First/Last Freeze Days" section.

If you are concerned about your spring plants and flowers being harmed by the freeze this weekend, you can significantly reduce the risk of damage by covering the plants with a sheet, newspaper, old bucket, or something of the like.  The goal is to prevent frost from covering the leaves of the plant.  Also, if the water inside the leaves freezes, it can rupture the vessels inside the leaves, damaging the plant.  A protective layer over the plants usually does the trick.  Be sure to uncover the plants in the morning after temperatures rise above freezing.
