I give OSU at B+. Good hire. Not great, but good. Any logical observer knew this is the category of coach OSU was going to end up with once they didn't get Bill Self. Travis Ford is an up-and-coming, young, promising, mid-major coach. Anybody who realistically thought they were going to woo the likes of John Calipari or Jay Wright or Jamie Dixon was living in a Boone's checkbook induced dream world.
That being said, I think this is a solid hire for Mike Holder. Travis Ford was a smart, coach-on-the-court point guard who has improved every program he's coached. He plays an entertaining style and has a spotless reputation among his fellow coaches. Time will tell whether he can be successful in the Big 12, but that was the case with Jeff Capel and Kelvin Sampson and Billy Tubbs.
Ford is young and energetic, which helps immensely when trying to recruit to Stillwater. Ford would love to be the next head coach at Kentucky, but he can't do that without being successful at OSU.
Travis Ford wouldn't have been my 1st choice, maybe not one of my top five choices, but he's not a bad choice. I give it a B+.
