Steffanie's Law, named after Steffanie Collins, passed the state Senate on Thursday as an amendment to a House insurance bill.
Sen. Andrew Rice, D-Oklahoma City, added key provisions of Steffanie's Law to HB 3115 as it came to a vote in the Senate. The legislation, if passed, would require insurance companies to cover routine medical care for patients enrolled in clinical trials.
Steffanie's family fell deep in debt trying to pay for her routine medical care while she was in clinical trials to treat her brain cancer. Steffanie's died last month at 18-years-old.
The bill named in her honor now heads to the House.
