The owner of the Seattle Sonics said he's ready to move the team to Oklahoma City, but a number of legal hurdles must first be cleared, including a lawsuit filed by the former owner of the team, Howard Schultz.
Schultz is also the CEO of Starbucks. And now a metro man, who said he's sick and tired of Seattle's sore-loser attitude, plans to boycott the coffee company.
The man behind the boycott, Rhett Lake, said it's time for Seattle to stop the drama.
"We didn't steal the team," Lake said. "Seattle had plenty of chances to keep the team."
Lake, who owns Rhett's Meat Market, said he's appalled that the former owner of the Sonics and Starbucks CEO, is suing to reclaim ownership of the franchise.
Lake wants Oklahomans to stop sipping on Starbucks.
"Why should we help anything with Seattle when they're trying to make it miserable for Clay Bennett?" Lake said.
Larry Andrews of Edmond disagrees with Lake's perspective. Lake wrote a letter to the editor in a local newspaper, and Andrews fired back by written word, defending the Starbucks business and its employees.
Andrews said he thinks the boycott could potentially hurt Oklahomans.
Lake said his goal isn't to harm Oklahomans, but he did want to show Clay Bennett and the rest of the team that the Sooner State is supporting their move to the metro.
"Seattle needs to look into the mirror to see what they did not do to keep the team," Lake said.
Lake said many of his customers have supported the idea of a boycott against Starbucks.
Clay Bennett and his wife are frequent customers of Lake's business and Louise Bennett, Clay Bennett's wife, personally thanked Lake for writing the editorial.
