Oisin Fagan is not your typical boxer. During the weekends he is a pummeling machine, but during the weekdays he is transformed into a caring teacher at Columbus Elementary Enterprise School.
In the course of five years, Fagan's young career quickly evolved into that of a legitimate boxing contender in Oklahoma. He now has a 21-5 record and he captured the Oklahoma Lightweight Title as well as the Irish Jr. Welterweight Championship throughout the years. And he's done all this while teaching physical education at Columbus Elementary on the city's southside.
He's earned the respect of the kids and Columbus Principal Phil Cunningham became one of his biggest fans.
Sadly, Fagan said it's time to move home, back to Ireland to be closer to his family. His work visa has expired and he elected not to get a green card.
"If I had gotten married, I would have been able to stay around," Fagan joked.
Fagan declined comment on how many proposal he has actually gotten in the last five years in the heartland.
Fagan's final day at school was last Wednesday. He is schedule to leave the country later this month.
