TULSA, Okla. -- Two small children were taken into protective custody on Friday morning after Tulsa police said their mother left them in a hot SUV.

Someone in the parking lot at the 66 and S Memorial Drive Wal-Mart called authorities after spotting the children inside a 1992-1996 Chevy Tahoe, police said.

Tulsa police, fire, and EMSA all responded to the scene.

EMSA said the children, both boys estimated between one and three-years-old, were treated by paramedics. The boys were then taken into custody by child protective services.

Officers said the windows of the Tahoe were rolled down slightly. They estimate the children had been inside the SUV for approximately 15 minutes.

Authorities said if the boys had been in the vehicle much longer, the situation could have taken a tragic turn.

Tulsa police interviewed the boys' mother. She was cited by officers, but not arrested.
