OKLAHOMA CITY -- While you might think big trucks are harming the environment, they're actually going "green" and leaving behind a smaller carbon footprint than their predecessors.

Oklahoma City started using biodiesel in their garbage collection trucks this past spring. While the gas mileage might be as good as regular diesel, Solid Waste Manager Jim Linn said it pays off in other ways.

"Biodiesel is an interesting mix of animal fat, beef fat and soy oil," Linn said. "Basically it has the side effect of lowering emissions from ultra-low sulfur diesel engines and actually increasing the horsepower of the engine just a little bit."
