KILLEEN, Texas - A Fort Hood soldier shot his commanding officer during a confrontation at his Killeen apartment early Monday. Then, the soldier then turned the gun on himself.
Both men were killed, and autopsies have been ordered on the bodies of both men.
Killeen police said a lieutenant and staff sergeant went to the Army specialist's apartment this morning, and that led to a confrontation that drew police to the scene.
Officers arrived to witness the specialist shoot the lieutenant. The officers opened fire on the specialist, who shot himself in the head. It's unclear whether he died of police gunfire or his own.
The staff sergeant wasn't injured.
The identities of the men and their unit were being withheld pending notification of their families.
A Fort Hood spokesman said their unit is in the middle of training and not scheduled to deploy for several months.
