OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City firefighters worked to battle a two-alarm apartment fire Tuesday at about 6:40 p.m. in the 2200 block of NW 12 and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Sixteen residents were left homeless after the fire spread through the complex.
A family of nine recently moved to the apartments due to a fire at their previous residence.
"We're just not having any luck," family member Joan Alexander said. "Everything we had left from the last fire was all we had in there."
Firefighters said a 3-year-old was playing with a lighter in a back bedroom when it caught a mattress on fire and the blaze grew.
No injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross is helped the families find a place to stay for the night.
