OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City Thunder and the City of Oklahoma City have selected a tentative site for the team's new permanent practice facility.
The site, an approximately eight acre tract of land at Britton Road and Broadway Extension in northeast Oklahoma City, is currently owned by Kickingbird Medical Building, LLC.
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, the City Council will work on an agreement with the property owner to conduct an evaluation, inspection and survey of the property to ensure its viability. The process includes environmental studies, ground stabilization and a general assessment of the current condition of the property as suitable for the practice facility. The inspection process will also be used to develop reliable cost estimates for construction of the facility.
In March, Oklahoma City voters approved an extension of an existing sales tax to fund improvements to the Ford Center and the construction of a permanent NBA practice facility.
Construction of the new practice facility is expected to be completed in time for the 2010-2011 Thunder season.
