PUERTO SAN CARLOS, Mexico (AP) -- Hurricane Norbert has weakened to a Category 2 hurricane as it bears down on Mexico's southern Baja California peninsula.

Officials from the National Hurricane Center in Miami say Norbert had strengthened to a Category 3 storm overnight but weakened slightly Saturday morning with winds of 110 mph (155 kph).

The center says Norbert is expected to make landfall in the southwestern coast of Baja California later Saturday morning and make a second landfall in northwestern Mexico Saturday night.

As of 8 a.m. EDT (Noon GMT), the hurricane's center was located about 80 miles (130 kms) south of Cabo San Lazaro, Mexico. Norbert was moving north-northeast at 15 mph (24 kph).
