OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma City man is facing fines for killing federally protected birds at Lake Hefner this summer.

Gregory Owen pleaded guilty to taking a nest of Cliff Swallows.

Police said the 58-year-old destroyed 30 nests because he didn't like the birds flying around his boat.

Owens must pay $6,500 and perform 100 hours of community service for the Audubon Society of Central Oklahoma or the Friends of Lake Hefner.
