(WTKR) - A surprise overnight snowfall scattered flurries in some locations but brought a modest accumulation to others across Virginia and North Carolina Friday.  Forecasters predicted the snowflakes, but for many, their arrival was still a surprise.

In Norfolk and the Hampton Roads vicinity the snow didn't present too much of a problem for early morning commuters.  The situation was a bit different in Camden, North Carolina where motorists had to use snow scrapers to clear their windshields before heading off to work. Most folks were able to continue their normal routines after only a slight weather related delay.

Parents, such as Bridget Besgen, say the surprise snow flurries put her youngsters in the holiday spirit.
