NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Having already established itself the weather center of the region, officials in Norman want to take the next step and create a weather museum.
Officials with the Norman Chamber of Commerce have created a committee to explore the creation of a National Weather Museum and Science Center.
The group of university officials, private weather industry leaders and the local business community registered a nonprofit entity that received its 501(c)3 status last month.
Norman is home to the National Weather Center, a 244,000-square-foot facility that houses OU's School of Meteorology and about a dozen university and federal weather research operations.
The new facility is home to some of the top weather researchers in the country and has drawn private weather companies to OU's new south research campus.
