HEATHER WAS SKIING SOME FRESH POWDER SUNDAY AFTERNOON ON THE EAST SIDE OF
SNOWBIRD'S MOUNT BALDY.  SHE WAS SKIING IN-BOUNDS WHEN SHE WAS HIT BY AN
AVALANCHE AND BURIED UNDER SEVERAL FEET OF SNOW.
BY THE TIME RESCUERS FOUND HER SHE HAD BEEN BURIED FOR NEARLY AN HOUR.
SHE WAS RUSHED TO THE HOSPITAL.  BUT PASSED AWAY A SHORT TIME LATER.

BRUCE TREMPER WITH THE UTAH AVALANCHE CENTER SAYS SINCE 1950... THERE
HAVE  BEEN ONLY SEVEN DEATHS DUE TO INBOUND AVALANCHES LIKE THE ONE THAT
KILLED  HEATHER.

SNOWBIRD OFFICIALS TOLD US AVALANCHE CONTROL MEASURES WERE DONE SUNDAY
MORNING IN THE AREA WHERE THE AVALANCHE HIT... TREMPER SAYS THAT MAKES THIS
INBOUNDS AVALANCHE EVEN MORE SURPRISING.

HEATHER'S YOUNGER SISTER DESCRIBED HER AS A PERSON WHO LOVED PEOPLE.  NOW  HER FAMILY IS TRYING TO COPE WITH THE SUDDEN AND TRAGIC LOSS.
