Staff and Wire Reports
Much of western Oklahoma is under a Red Flag warning today from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m.
This means that conditions will be favorable for wildfires. Many of the counties in western Oklahoma are currently under a burn ban, but even if your county is not, today would be a good day not to throw your cigarettes out the car window or burn trash.
With temperatures getting up into the lower 60s, southeast winds reaching 25 mph and higher gusts and dry vegetation, wildfires will spread rather quickly today if ignited.
Temperatures will continue to rise through Thursday with highs in the upper 60s and lower 70s, so wildfires will be a big concern throughout much of the work week.
A grass fire forced authorities to shut down southbound lanes of Interstate 35 just south of Purcell for about an hour and a half.
