Woman Sentenced for Killing Husband

A Watts woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the shooting death of her husband.

STILWELL, Oklahoma - A Watts woman has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the shooting death of her husband.

Prosecutors in Adair County say 48-year-old Karon Ames was sentenced Tuesday after pleading no contest to first-degree manslaughter and a firearms violation in the death of 49-year-old Ronnie Ames.

An affidavit in the case says Ronnie Ames had become upset because the mail was piling up and started slapping, punching and throwing Karon Ames around the kitchen.

Karon Ames managed to break free and pick up a loaded shotgun that she fired in an effort to scare her husband - but hit and killed him instead.
