OKLAHOMA CITY -- We're usually preparing for tornadoes this time of year. But today city crews are getting out their salt and sand making sure the roads will be as safe as possible.
Twenty dump trucks in Oklahoma City will be outfitted with snow plows in preparation for the winter weather and 8,000 tons of salt will be on hand as well.
"We've got the material here, the crews have been doing this for a long time, so they're ready" Oklahoma City Streets Superintendent Mike DeGiacomo said. "The last piece of the puzzle, of course, is to get this stuff mounted prior to the storm coming in."
The Red Cross is offering the following safety advice:
-Never use a stove or oven to heat your home.
-Place space heaters on a level, hard, nonflammable surface. Never leave space heaters or fires unattended.
-It's a good time to check your smoke alarms.
-Stock up on food at the grocery store.
