MONTAGUE, Texas (AP) -- Gov. Rick Perry got a first-hand look at a small North Texas community ravaged by a wildfire.
Perry was in the Montague (mahn-TAYG) County community of Stoneburg on Friday and walked around the charred remains of several homes. He called it the "most vicious fire that I have ever seen in my life."
Local officials say the April 9 fire destroyed about 60,000 acres, 76 homes and killed three people in Montague County.
Perry says since January more than 400,000 acres and 227 homes have burned across the state.
