NEWS 9 Team Earns 5 Emmy Nominations

NEWS 9 was nominated for five Heartland Regional Emmy's Wednesday for its outstanding news and weather coverage.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Griffin Communications, which encompasses both NEWS 9 and NEWS on 6 received several Heartland Regional Emmy nominations.

NEWS 9 was nominated for five Heartland Regional Emmy's Wednesday for its outstanding news and weather coverage.

Photographer John Almendarez and reporter Jacqueline Sit were nominated for their story, "Potter Church," for General Assignment Report within 24 Hours.

Gary England, Director of Meteorology, photographer Ken Kilbourn, Meteorologist Michael Armstrong and helicopter pilot/reporter Mason Dunn were nominated for their Continuing Coverage of the "Tornadic Events of May 24, 2008."

Look through the videos which captured the destruction of the May 24th tornado.

Almendarez and Sit teamed up again, along with reporter Dave Jordan, to earn another Emmy nomination for their Featured News Report on "Daycations."

Viewers have come to know Kelly Ogle through his poignant opinion pieces in "My 2 Cents," which has earned him a nomination for Commentator/Editorialist. Viewers, sometimes opposing Ogle's opinions, also have an opportunity to voice their thoughts on issues in news.

Photographer John Almendarez earned his third nomination for his portfolio for News Photographer.

NEWS 9's most recent addition to the team, Photographer Brandon Mowry, was also nominated for his work as photographer/editor for a piece he completed at his former station in Kansas.

NEWS on 6 was also nominated for its journalistic skill.

The station received a nomination for its coverage of the Pincher tornado aftermath. NEWS on 6's May 12, 2008 10 p.m. newscast was anchored in the field by Terry Hood and anchored from the studio by Scott Thompson.

The newscast featured contributions from anchors Jennifer Loren, Lori Fullbright and Craig Day, reporter Ashlie Sims, field producer Dan Bewley, former executive producer Dave Neligan and producer Joshua Brakhage.
