Heat has been a point of interest this weekend with several heat bursts occurring during the overnights across northwest and south central Oklahoma. Rolling with the heat theme, Sunday will be a sizzler for western portions of the state with highs forecast to reach into the middle and upper 90s; 100s are not out of the realm of possibilities.
Heat, if you will, will also play a roll in limiting the formation of thunderstorms this afternoon. A layer of warm air aloft relative to air being lifted from the surface may prohibit the development of storms, essentially putting a lid of things. Conditions do favor severe storms across north central Oklahoma if they manage to develop; the most likely time period for storms will be from 4 PM through the night. Large hail and damaging winds will be the primary threats from the storms.
