WASHINGTON D.C. -- President Barack Obama discussed being a dad and the responsibilities fathers have to their children on CBS Sunday Morning.
Obama told American fathers they need to participate in their children's lives.
"When fathers are absent, when they abandon their responsibilities, we know the damage that does to our families," President Obama said.
His first book "Dream of My Father" the president shared what it was like growing up without a dad.
The White House kicked off a campaign on Father's Day to promote responsible fatherhood. The office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships will hold forums across the country this summer in support of the effort.
At a town hall meeting to kick off the event the president discusses a startling statistic; 24 million children in America grow up without their fathers.
