SHAWNEE, Oklahoma -- A Labrador Retriever found in a Shawnee neighborhood is lucky to be alive after being shot in the shoulder, and now she gets a chance at a new home.
Shawnee animal control supervisor Randy Newton picked up the pooch on Tuesday and saw the dog had suffered a gunshot wound. He said the retriever would have been euthanized but the dog has such a sweet personality, it was taken to a veterinarian instead of a shelter.
"She's gone through so much. We're making sure she gets all the medical care she needs before she's placed on adoption," Newton said. "We see all sorts of stuff and all sort of cruelty and for somebody to shoot a dog for no reason, that's just uncalled for."
Newton said it will take several days before the Labrador Retriever will be ready for adoption.
She's a very sweet natured dog, very excited about life. She's a typical young lab who wants to love everybody, and someone may have shot her but she doesn't have a bad feeling in the world toward anybody. It's gonna be excited to be in a loving home," said Dr. Natalie Keith with Shawnee Animal Hospital.
If you're interested in giving this dog a good home, call the shelter at 405-878-1531.
