OKLAHOMA CITY -- An Oklahoma City woman going to the nation's Capitol to talk about the dangers of using a cell phone while driving. The discussion is part of a distracted driving summit put on by the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Gina Harris will be sharing her story. Her daughter Brittany was killed in 2006. The 19-year-old lost control of her vehicle while talking on her phone, drove across four lanes of traffic and was hit and killed by an oncoming car.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that in 2008 nearly 6,000 people died, and more than half a million people were injured in crashes involving distracted drivers.
