OKLAHOMA CITY -- A man who police named as a suspect in the kidnapping and sexual assault of an Oklahoma City middle school student died in the hospital Wednesday.
The 11-year-old girl was walking to Jefferson Middle School last week when she said a man pointed a gun at her, forced her into a small gray car, and then assaulted her before dropping her back off near school.
Police named Larry Kirby as the suspect. The convicted sex offender was taken to the hospital Tuesday after shooting himself in the face.
Kirby died Wednesday just before 6 p.m.
Police never got a chance to question Kirby and said the investigation into the kidnapping and assault remains open.
