Funeral Set For Altus Air Force Base Soldier

The funeral has been set for an airman assigned to an Altus Air Force Base squadron who died while serving in Afghanistan.

ALTUS, Oklahoma – The funeral has been set for an airman assigned to an Altus Air Force Base squadron who died while serving in Afghanistan.

Andrew Bubacz of Dalzell, S.C., died Friday in Nuristan, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 97th Communications Squadron as a computer technician.

Sergeant Bubacz earned Community College of the Air Force degrees in both biology and information management, as well as an associate's degree in biology from Western Oklahoma State College.

Sergeant Bubacz attended Airman Leadership School in January 2010, and he is a recipient of the Air Force Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.

The funeral for the 23-year-old will take place Friday, November 19 at the Bullock Funeral Home in Sumter, S.C., followed by burial at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, S.C.

Information about his memorial service has not been released.
