EDMOND, Oklahoma – An Edmond soldier serving a 15 year murder sentence has been denied clemency, according to the soldier's mother.

Vicki Behenna said that her son, Army Ranger 1st Lieutenant Michael Behenna, was denied his request for clemency after she testified on his behalf before the Clemency Board a few weeks ago.

"That means we will just have to regroup and give it another try," Vicki Behenna said.

Vicki Behenna, who is also an assistant U.S. Attorney, is working to have her son's conviction overturned, based on the grounds military prosecutors withheld evidence during the trial.

Lt. Michael Behenna is serving 15 years in prison for killing an Iraqi detainee. His original sentence was 25 years, but has been reduced twice to 15 years. Without parole or a new trial, Lt. Behenna will get out of prison when he is 40 years old.
