OKLAHOMA CITY – A person was hit and killed by a car near S.W. 29th Street and Portland Avenue Wednesday evening.

Witnesses said 79-year-old Edwin Hudson, who lives in the area, was walking across Portland Avenue when he was struck by a pickup truck heading southbound.

"I ran over there, he was breathing and I tried to stay with him," said April Adams who saw the man laying the street immediately after the accident. "I was talking to him, trying to tell him the ambulance was coming, just stay with me."

Police said the vehicle was likely a 90's model dark colored pickup, maybe a Chevy step side, possibly primer gray or black with an extended cab and chrome bumper. The front end was also damaged.

Witnesses said the vehicle was driven by a Hispanic male, approximately 40-years-old.

Adams said a couple of people chased the vehicle after the incident but were unable to catch him.

Meanwhile, Hudson, slowly slipped away.

"I was just watching him breathing and as soon as the ambulance came he stopped breathing," said Adams. "He was gone."

Police say if you see anyone fitting that description to call Crime Stoppers immediately at (405) 235-7300.
