OKLAHOMA CITY – Gov. Mary Fallin has asked the White House to approve an emergency disaster declaration request for all 77 Oklahoma counties due to the severe winter storm.

If the White House approves the declaration, state and local governments will receive reimbursement for expenses associated with responding to the storm such as the cost of clearing roads, paying overtime, and operating shelters.

"People will still be stranded at different times if they're not careful, so Oklahomans need to be careful and understand that even though the sun is out, it doesn't mean we're through with some challenging times with the state," said the governor.

The state may request additional federal assistance once the damage assessment teams  survey the impacted areas.

Oklahoma remains under a statewide declaration of emergency issued by Gov. Fallin on Monday.
