Fire Safety Campaign Launched To Lower Death Rates

Oklahoma ranks fifth in the nation with the most deaths from fire, according to U.S. Fire Administration statistics.

DENTON, Texas -- Oklahoma ranks fifth in the nation with the most deaths from fire, according to U.S. Fire Administration statistics.

Data from 2007 revealed a national average of 13.2 fire deaths per million population. Oklahoma had 24.9 deaths per million.

In order to decrease the number of deaths nationwide, FEMA and the National Commission on Children and Disasters have launched a new fire safety public awareness campaign.

To provide families with important tips about fire safety and lists of additional resources, FEMA launched online and social media tools.
