OKLAHOMA CITY -- Because of the extreme fire risk in the metro, the Oklahoma County Commissioners have issued a 30-day, county-wide burn ban.
The commissioners held an emergency meeting Wednesday, Feb. 17. The ban makes it illegal for any person to build campfires or bonfires, or burn trash or other material that may cause a forest, grass, range, crop or other wildland fire.
The burn ban does not include cooking outside with approved appliances.
Anyone convicted of violating the burn ban could be fined $500 or sentenced up to one year in jail.
Burn bans are also in effect in Lincoln, Logan, Cleveland, Grady, Stephens, Garvin, Cotton, McClain, Kingfisher, Tillman, Jefferson, Comanche, Seminole, Caddo, Jackson, Payne and Pottawatomie Counties.
