OKLAHOMA CITY -- It is an emotional and physically exhausting process for anyone, but for seniors, moving can be even more difficult. Often times they're downsizing and leaving behind their home of several decades, but a company called Senior Transitions is designed for seniors on the move.
Senior Transitions employees come in and help you make those tough decisions such as what to keep and what not to pack.
Lurlene Jarvis will soon have a new address. She's changing apartments and has hired Amber Bergeson to help with the move.
"Usually they've got 40 years of stuff they don't know what to do with," Bergeson said.
So, Bergeson and her team come in and help those who are distraught make wise decisions. With the layout of the new place in hand, it's decided what items fit and what doesn't. Bergeson said for those who are overwhelmed, the key is making small steps.
"Normally we get them settled then they have an estate sale then their home sells, and so they know little bites come off at first. You don't have to do it all at once, and so that immediately relieves them and the family," Bergeson said.
For Jarvis, her move is a bit easier since she's just changing apartments. Even so, it's made easier when Senior Transitions packs all of her belongings. Once the movers come, everything is then unpacked and workers get her settled in.
"Settling in means hanging pictures, making the bed, plugging in the coffee pot, the alarm clock, all those things that are essential for them to be completely moved in and settled in," Bergeson said.
When everything is unpacked and put away, employees even clean up the mess. Senior Transitions offers a free consultation, so it costs you nothing to get an estimate on the price of your move.
Senior Transitions charges $80 dollars an hour. The company has locations in Edmond and Tulsa.
